How To Pick a Good Home Office Chair?

When it comes to choosing a good home office chair, there is more than just aesthetics. You got to make sure it meets a few criteria before you purchase one.

Buying the wrong type of chair can cause back pain and be detrimental for your health, so it’s vital that you consider the following things below:

Does It Have A Good Back Support?

Besides being mindful of how you sit, you need a chair that has good back support. Usually, 95-115 degree reclined chairs are best, so consider choosing from chairs that have a recliner.

This particular study has found that people who sat on chairs without back support had more pressure on their joints and disk.

A comfortable seat with good back support will help keep some weight and pressure off your back and spinal cords. If you are going to be sitting for many hours, please consider sitting with a neutral position to prevent bad posture and slouching.

Consider The Type of Cushion and Material

I have found that a cushion that is somewhere between firm and soft is the best choice. When it’s too hard, it feels like your bones are pressing on your flesh, whereas if it’s too soft, there is an uncomfortable feeling of sinking into your seat too much and developing a bad posture.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to get an office seat with replaceable cushion covers. Upholstered or attached seat cushions are harder to clean.

Ergonomic and mesh cushions are also a better choice when it comes to design and material because leather and other types of material don’t allow the odor to escape as freely.

Do You Need Chair Arms or No?

Chairs without arms slightly cheaper, so it will depend on your preference and use. They are easier to stow and put away but are not as comfortable for when you are working. Chairs without arms are better suited for sitting during meetings, so it’s suggested you get a chair with armrest.

Should You Buy an Office Chair With Wheels?

Will you be moving around in your chair more often? Is your floor hardwood or concrete? On hard surfaces, office chairs with wheels are fun and better suited. However, in a carpeted room, the wheels are not as mobile.

You also have to consider whether you can clean the mess that gets caught in between the wheels. Sometimes, hair, food, and other junk get stuck in between the wheels. There is more upkeep and maintenance when you buy one with wheels.

While chairs with wheels are easier to move around, if you don’t mind less mobility and don’t like spending much time cleaning the chairs, an office chair without wheels is the better option. You probably will save a little bit of money as well.

Yoga Balls & Other Trends

Recently there’s been a trend to opt for more “healthier office chairs. They may not seem like chairs in the traditional sense, but yoga balls and designs that are unorthodox have been getting some attention.

Yoga balls are great for performing exercises, but I personally do not like sitting on them. As long as you take breaks, get up and do some stretches, you should be fairly fine. Ergonomic office chairs are still my choice when it comes to seating.
